The country's largest women-only community with 844,000 members has been embroiled in a controversy over the "women's version of the Nth room."

The 'Nth Room Incident', which broke out in February 2019, refers to a case of digital s*x crimes in which illegal pornography was created, traded, and distributed through a group chat room opened on Telegram. The victim was a woman and the perpetrator was a man. In the women's community, similar information is circulating, with only the genders of the victims and perpetrators reversed.

Community members were sharing detailed information about men they had met on dating apps that matched them with foreign men in the café, so-called "reviews."

Among them were minors. They post real photos of various foreign men and exchange information by obscenely mentioning the other person's appearance and genitals, such as "I have to do ○○", "I see ○○", and "I have seen this ○○○".

The so-called "U.S. Army Men Big Data Tank Count" list they shared in the café contained three pages of detailed information about U.S. soldiers. One member who seems to have taken the lead in making the list said, "I'm going to make it like an encyclopedia." There was also a "list of foreign men who use dating apps" shared among community members.

Attorney Kim Seung-hwan of GB Law Firm said, "Their actions may constitute a violation of the Information and Communications Network Act in that they are defamatory, and unauthorized disclosure of personal information may be punishable if it is done continuously or repeatedly under the Stalking Punishment Act."

According to the current law, a person who publicly discloses facts through an information and communication network for the purpose of slandering a person and defames another person shall be punished with imprisonment for not more than three years or a fine of not more than 30 million won, and a person who defames a person with false facts shall be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than seven years, suspension of qualification (occupational group) for not more than 10 years, or a fine of not more than 50 million won. A person who commits the crime of stalking shall be sentenced to up to three years in prison or fined not more than 30 million won.

Recently, the community took the lead in opposing the 2024 KXF The Fashion Festival, saying that it was an event that sexualized women. They called KXF a "prostitution expo" and joined a petition asking the local government to stop the event where KXF was scheduled to be held. Externally, while criticizing the sexual commodification of women, they point out that degrading men as sexual objects among themselves is not a double standard.

Community members opposed the KXF, saying, "It means not to do it in Korea at all. "Understand", "It's disgusting to look for other places", "I'm tired of it", "I'm suspicious why you can't do that", and "Dirty things". KXF, which features Japanese adult video (AV) actors, was eventually canceled after being "rejected by local governments and women's groups."

The sexual harassment approach of female community members towards foreigners also poses a risk of racism. In this community, foreign men are often referred to as objects of depersonalized sexual desire and consumption.

Koo Jeong-woo, a professor of sociology at Sungkyunkwan University, said, "There is a stereotype that men are the perpetrators and women are the victims of the so-called 'Nth room,' but this is an example that shows that women can be perpetrators at any time." He added, "Whether you are a man or a woman, you need to look at yourself to make sure that you are not participating in these sexual crimes."

I think it's pretty elitist to judge the quality of a content via whether it's in a book/journal or not. In fact, the recent wave of scientific fraud discovery shows that one can hide data manipulation pretty effectively in an academic journal. To be fair, I think the word "staged" doesn't get nearly enough credit here. Mishima dedicated pretty much his entire adult life to the cultivation of his self as an aesthetic object, and it's hard not to see that including the manner of his death.It would be insufficient to call it "performance art", because that might imply that he wasn't somehow sincere in his stated politics or whatever, and I don't think that's true. But I don't think the point of the "coup" was ever to achieve a successful material change in government or anything like that; if anything, Mishima wanted to change people's consciousnesses through the wanton spectacle of his death.And maybe unintentionally, the way he died was beautifully ironic given the way we've valorised that spectacle vis a vis the image of his external politics and his philosophy of the aesthetic cultivation of the body: he failed to disembowel himself properly, his kaishakunin failed to behead him cleanly, and he died in agony. I don't agree with Dostoyevsky's reason for that characterization, but from what I remember that character (I don't exactly remember if he was a communist or just a liberal/Russian nihilist) is comically myopic and stubborn in his worldview. For example, there is a period when a certain character dies and he goes on to lecture grieving family members about how there shouldn't be a burial rite (or something to that effect) because those are grounded in religious traditions which his brand of politics/philosophy rejects entirely. (Similar moments include him lecturing some women about not marrying IIRC.) I mean fine if you hold those views, but Dostoyevsky's "ridicule" of him works because he's (the character) so dogmatic, ridiculously over-the-top and downright inhumane about his feminism and atheism. Of course, for those of us who differ vastly in our worldview and beliefs from Dostoyevsky, none of this calculated ridicule will make his conservative religious pitch any more intriguing. (32)

Made friends while rockclimbing earlier this year, good group of guys, sans one that gets a little too close, goes out of their way to do the "gay ironically" bit, starts singling out my girlfriend to be friendly toward. I'm not r-slurred, she is apparently.

She's like "can you believe that xxx wants me to go to the gym with him and help him approach a crush, I thought he was gay!" and other things that remind me why women are underdiagnosed for autism.

Anyway, after telling her its obvious he likes her and I don't think he's the type to respect boundaries, she keeps taking him at face value, and he asks her last night if she wants to frick the next time she works from home. She tells me I was right about him and said I could look through the messages if I wanted, like I need confirmation that men shoot their shot when they see an opening.

Reach out to the guy personally, he avoids my call, obviously. Post in a shared chat later that day asking if folks are downtown, he calls me a cute twink for using a group chat he's in "after he tried banging my gf" and he leaves the chat before I can reply.

Social dynamics at play are 1) he's been in this friend group since high school and we're all in our 30s 2) I've hung out with these guys a couple times over the past few months, since I had to stop working out for a bit after breaking my leg this year. I'm 90% sure I'm not gonna hear from these dudes again because the potential drama's too r-slurred. Lose no sleep over the ugly dude that thought he was a threat, but the other guys were chill and its hard not to blame my girlfriend for being r-slurred.
