BoxOffice Theory is a boxoffice discussion forum that's famous in the business, with actual boxoffice trackers and Hollywood insiders commenting there occasionally. It's also a site that manages to be even more painfully unfunny than reddit. People can get banned by jannies for the mildest disagreements, even hinting that woke movies are bad can get you in trouble, and people there defend Disney like they personally own shares in the company. There's lots of drama and pettiness going on in there but the site culture and the forum layout makes if difficult and boring to find it.

The Marvels forum thread has been extra smug ever since the movie was announced. Captain Marvel was the proof that annoying internet chuds were just some pathetic obstacles that will soon be crushed by the ever benevolent Hollywood which will result in a film utopia where every possible minority group will find proper representation in unproblematic movies forever. Despite nazi racist incels screaming at Carol Danvers, her movie still made a billion dollars at the boxoffice and Captain Marvel was set to become one of the most important characters in the franchise, and even a potential leader of the new Avengers. And her newest movie will prove that the future is female and that chuds have no power outside of their youtube echochambers. Every disagreement was vehemently attacked, as was every hint that the movie isn't doing well with all the delays and reshoots it was going through (without mentioning the quality of the recent Marvel movies). People there were salivating at the thought of The Marvels making another billion dollars.

But as November approaches and the movie is set to open in theatres soon the proper tracking of this movie began... and it's not going well at all. The excitement for this movie is at an all time low for the franchise and the ticket pre-sales are cry worthy.

It is shocking how terrible TheMarvels presales are at this point. Roughly 25% of AntMan and below TheFlash and IndianaJones. It needs great reviews and promotion from the actors or we are looking at a potential sub-$60m opening.

Worse than the Flash and Indiana Jones As a slight context, the first Captain Marvel movie opened at $153m. Nearly a month ago The Marvels tracked for a $90-100m opening and that was considered disappointing. A few days ago it was tracking for a $70-80m opening and that was basically considered disastrous. Now it might not even make that much.

elemental's OW was absolutely terrible. bold to expect 100M out of a film that is currently at less than two thirds of eternals' tickets sold and going down

Elemental was assumed to be a massive bomb when if first opened and was lucky to have long legs. Marvel movies have notoriously short legs, relaying on the opening week for most of their earnings, there's absolutely no way The Marvels will have the same luck Elementals had, and it's already doing worse

Now, the jannies have mostly gave up trying to mop the thread so it has gotten quite lively. People are mocking Marvel, start arguments all over the place and argue about random off-topic things. And more importantly, Marvel fans are getting attacked by everyone. (I won't quote full posts every time because the forum residents love their and really technical explanations).

Barbie isn't an indie, neither is The Marvels. Both are films made and backed by multi billion corporations. The fact that both films were officially tracking around the same long box office range forecast 22 days before it's release is of note. Phenomenons like Barbie and Captain Marvel before can't be predicted that far along. What we can see here is that there is a lot of biases going around. It's hard to explain how one could be ‘excited' for Barbie to open around $70-80m 22 days before it's release and being doom and gloom about The Marvels tracking around the exact same forecasts.

The budgets of these two multi billion backed corporation films aren't that far from each other. Both of them are about very much só corporation toys and made to promote Marvel and Mattel. Never mind the lack of understanding of how box office prediction works, I can't really argue against that it does look incredibly odd to have the positive narrative framing for Barbie opening to the exact same long range box office forecast of $70-80m and the doom and gloom to The Marvels around the same numbers. It's not even about judging films differently, it's just odd.

I do think that me and Shawn made similar points about how people might be surprised by The Marvels female audience weeks ago, and I do think that unlike the Captain Marvel, there is an world and potential for The Marvels to skew more towards a female audience than that first film. The female Marvel Studios audience is bigger than most people here seem to give credit for.

When the trailer played before KOTFM, the audience seemed so disinterested. I think the MCU has worn out its welcome.

According postrak the under 25 crowd was only 20% of the audience. So yeah. There isn't going to be much of a overlap between audiences for Marvel and Scorsese.

You know, I've been thinking that you sound delusional but didn't want to say anything. This confirms it. Have you ever spoken to anyone who says they like captain marvel more than Scott? I find that really really hard to believe, and it sounds like wishful thinking to me. This girl is exactly the type that marvel is trying to court, and she ranks captain marvel below ant man 1 and 2, and among the worst movies in the franchise (at the time).

Here's the thing. Is this my one of my least anticipated MCU's movies. For sure. But I will most likely be seeing it with my friends and their 7 year old daughter, who loved MS. This story begins with /r/RoeVWadeCelebration. Now, I have a general rule when trolling to never argue for things I actually agree with, and I lean slightly pro-life on the issue of abortion (I'm more of a centrist, but I think pro-choice people have terrible arguments. Like I get it you are losing "freedom", but that is entirely tangential to the problem at hand ). However, I couldn't resist a good opportunity to troll redditors, so I decided to try Christmaxxing (more on that on my other post). I had been meaning to try it, but had never gotten around to it. (trolling rightoids is too much fun)

I had some good fun trolling /r/RoeVWadeCelebration's resident lolcows, but I wanted to bring more actual Christposters into the fold (dramamaxxing), so I went to the most logical place to find Pro-Life Christposters - /r/Christianity. Boy was I wrong.

The Absurd Nature of /r/Christianity

Even a cursory glance at /r/Christianity will reveal that there is something very bizarre going on. Firstly, pretty much everything posted there has a rather liberal bias (compared to "normal" conservative Christianity). In fact, it seems almost apologetic for being Christian. And, more importantly, a decent chunk of posters aren't even Christians!

So, what's going on? Well, based on my observations, /r/Christianity has three distinct groups of people that browse it.

1. The Atheist Agitators : These people browse /r/Christianity in an attempt to debunk the lies of religion. Obviously, the vast, vast majority of redditors are atheists, so it makes sense that we would have a decent-sized population of them. They also get a lot of upvotes for the same reason.

2. The Malleable (((Methodists))) : These are liberal Christians. They aren't very numerous in the real world, but on a site that is as predominantly liberal as reddit, they are the largest group, by far. (Technically, they aren't all methodists, there are other denominations that are fairly liberal, like the Universalists, and people that don't go to church). These guys make a big show about being better than your average Christians because they have New Good Opinions™ rather than Old Bad Opinions™. Since the itself Bible is fairly problematic, a lot of them don't believe the Bible is accurate.

3. The Conservative Christians : These are the sorts of people that you'd meet if you went into most churches in America. However, reddit isn't kind to these people, being both "conservative" and "christian". Therefore, they don't generally use reddit, so they have a small population on /r/Christianity.

Because reddit is democratic, the "normal" Conservatives are pushed into a corner, while the rest circlejerk about how bad they are.

There's also something to be said about the mod team. /r/Christianity has a mod bio for their jannies, and my "biased" count shows there being 4 atheists, 7 methodist/liberal, and 9 "normal" jannies. So, the libs outnumber the cons by 2. As you would expect, the liberal Christians do be liberal:

The Plan

Given the fact that they were so liberal, but it was still technically a Christian subreddit, I saw the opportunity to begin causing a little bit of mischief. Now, obviously the Bible is problematic in and of itself, with verses that condemn homosexuality and sexual immorality but that is so passé. That's ragebait and rightoid. Instead, I would post wholesome bible verses that have a somewhat prolife bent, and wait for people to get mad at the literal bible on /r/Christianity. I did this for six days.

Day 1: The Crusade Begins

My first post was 🤗"For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made" Psalm 139:13-14 👶. This one got 37 comments, and a respectable 69% upvote ratio. Despite the fact that this was posted to rile up leftoids, a decent chunk of the commenters were actually positive. Of the four top level comments, only one was challenging me. (Don't worry, things will heat up soon)

I did get a couple of bites, however. My first customer was a "gay christian"

our debate didn't last, however, it did spawn a WORDSWORDSWORDS debate between a conservative and him, so I count that as a win. My next customer was cumberlandbanjo, saying this "isn't the debate of the day"

Day three was my first big hit. The vast majority of comments were seething. More importantly, our two biggest lolcows make their first appearances - McClanky and TeHeBasil.

First, TeHeBasil. TeHeBasil is an atheist, but more importantly he can never leave a conversation without getting the last word, which I stan hardcore. Our first conversation just kept going...

TeHeBasil isn't my favorite lolcow, however. My favorite lolcow is McClanky. McClanky is a moderator, and a bit of an butt. Our first confrontation began with him posting a verse I had seen multiple times (lmk if any of you christcels know a good comeback for this, this is like the third time I've seen it)

Ahh yes, God finds everything so precious that He helped create a potion that, at the least made a women incapable of having another child, or, at the most, made her miscarry. Very precious indeed.

Just “word bites”. But the most important one is that lazy writing often comes with lazy thinking. Use of emojis isn't a guarantee of any of these issues, I’ve just noticed a correlation.

Not at all. Said nothing about intelligence or lack of it, but rather laziness when it comes to writing. You aren't bothering to capitalize or use punctuation correctly, but because you're too lazy to put in the effort. I don't blame you though, I think it's a problem created by social media where capturing a simple essence of an idea and the poster's emotional response in a visual way is far more “rewarded” in these social apps, than actually deeply thinking about a topic and putting in the effort to clearly communicate your ideas.

It has nothing to do with intelligence, but effort and expectation. You claim you're “just a normal guy” so are you claiming normal people can't learn to write, punctuate and use grammar correctly? I disagree. It's not that hard to do. We teach it in elementary school. If you never learned it, that's a failing of the school system. Again, not a measure of intelligence.

My name @sneedman, but I have also existed within the dramaverse as @acebarbieboy. I'd like to come clean today, explain how I utterly fricked up my life, and give a cautionary tale to any even vaguely thinking of walking in my footsteps. My life is so destroyed at this point that the only solution is suicide.

THE GENESIS OF A DREAMER

As a child, I've always loved literature and reading. It's something that hasn't changed much, and I still voraciously read. When it was time for me to enter university, I did what everyone told me the smart choice was - study computer science. But I was also studying English at the time and I loved it.

I ended up majoring in English and dropping computer science. I didn't know it then, but this was the beginning of the end. I studied with passion, and had my postgraduate studies funded through scholarships. After getting my Masters, I started my PhD.

It was at this point that I paid attention to the fact that I'd need a job afterwards. No problem, I'll just become a lecturer! So the job applications began :)

MENTAL ILLNESS

I should reveal at this point that I've struggled with anxiety and depression my whole life. I've been on and off antidepressants and I've got fricking degenerate self-harming coping methods. They come and go, and during the worst times, I can get very absurd ideas about life and reality.

Sometime in 2022, I had one of those moments. In response, I cut off all contact with everyone I knew online, moved cities in real life, and resigned myself to a life of complete isolation. I was not done with my Ph.D. yet, but I was in my final year (I thought), and I no longer needed to be at the university in person. I had a job too. It didn't pay much, but it was enough for me to support myself.

The plan? Save up money for about a decade, then retreat to a life of isolation in the woods after establishing a homestead that is fully self-sufficient.

ASEXUALITY AND INCELDOM

I am very ugly, extremely dark, short (5 foot 2), and socially awkward. During my time studying English, I learned about gender theory, feminism, and queer theory. It was wonderful to learn about asexuality. The label fit me perfectly, and for years I wore it without question.

It was only this year, after some distance from university, that I discovered the bitter truth - I am not asexual. I am a very lonely incel. Unfortunately, there is no escape from inceldom from this position. No woman in the universe wants anything to do with a 5'2 mentally ill poor black man.

AFTER DISASTER

After my "live in the woods" delusions wore off, I realised I'm looking at a life of the following: no wife, no children, no family, no love, no intimacy. The darn asexuality meme snatched my 20s away from me. I also have no friends and I live in a city where I know nobody. This is what I wanted, right?

PLEASE DO NOT STUDY ENGLISH

Here's the thing - lecturer jobs don't exist anymore. Less than 10% of PhDs will get academic positions, and the rates of tenureship are even lower. Even if you're a stellar student, the odds of you actually making it into academia are so low, you might as well aspire to be a celebrity. If you have mental illness, are a brainlet, are incapable of networking, then you're REKT.

During my year of insanity, I produced no academic articles. I also fricked off my supervisor and made no contact to build any academic relationships. The result? Countless job applications to academics positions to no avail. To be clear, the jobs themselves do not exist, and when they do exist, I am facing competition as stiff as a boner.

Here's the zinger - my fricking PhD thesis got rejected and now I have to spend an additional year on it. Of course, I have to pay for this additional year because I no longer have funding so now I am paying for a qualification I know will not serve me at all.

WHAT DO YOU GET IF YOU STUDY ENGLISH

You will not become a lecturer. You will not become a famous writer.

You will be pushed to your limits emotionally to earn a useless qualification. If anything happens to you during your post-graduate year - let's say a family member dies, you fall ill - it's over. You'll fall behind in publications and YOU'LL NEVER CATCH UP.

You will be exposed to ideologies that will turn you into a firehouse of "social justice" and you will alienate people in your life with your self-righteousness. It will warp your self-identity, and you will struggle to develop normal relationships with women. You will be forced to write and say deeply racist things.

You will be poor. You will be depressed. You will regret it severely. Nobody gives a shit about your English PhD. You offer no value to the world.

I fricked up so badly. I was literally studying computer science. Had just one fricking year left. And I decided to switch to English. Now I'm a poor, lonely, shameful incel with no hope in life or reason to live. I'm so ashamed of the squandered opportunities I had, the sacrifices my parents made just for me to become absolutely nothing in this world. I can't show my face and I know what the next step is. I'm afraid of it - nothingness is so horrible - it but I can't bear life any longer either.

It's beyond over. The only choice now is whether to pick the rope or overdosing via trepeline.

Introduction

Final Fantasy XIV (FF14) is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed and published by Square Enix. The game was originally released in 2010 but received a major overhaul in 2013 (due to receiving a ton of negative feedback) with the release of its second version, A Realm Reborn. Since then, the game has continued to receive regular updates and expansions with the latest being Endwalker. In the game, players create their own unique characters and embark on an epic adventure in the world of Eorzea. The game features a rich and immersive storyline, filled with memorable characters and epic battles. Players can choose from a variety of different races and classes, each with its own unique playstyle and abilities. Stereotypical to the genre, the game's available races consist of elves, humans and all their variations, e.g. humans with cat ears or humans with bunny ears. Another race, which this drama is all about, are the Lalafells - I'll call them Lala(s) from now on:

Despite being small in stature and childlike in appearance, they are known to possess great intelligence and are skilled in various crafts. In game, there is the occasional joke about their tiny appearance but they are mostly treated seriously. None of this really matters because they are the token 'cute-smol-child' race and are known to only be played by fujos, freaks and total losers - so the only people interested in this game to begin with. Being a Lala is already quite difficult as you get regularly bullied in dungeons and raids and everyone thinks you're a p-do loser but recently square enix added a new cosmetic designed for them and things got heated. You see, there are in game houses you can buy in the game which you can decorate with furniture according to your liking. Lala players have been very vocal to the developers about wanting more Lala specific furnitures and recently their wishes were granted by adding a new chair:

The thread about this - Please Change/Rename Lalafell "Lifter"... - has reached 60 pages of pure undistilled seethe from Lala players starting from the OP:

As the title says, with patch 6.35 we received some new housing items! One of them being... the lalafell lifter. We have been begging for lalafell furniture for the longest time, especially after visiting Tomra and seeing all of the lalafellin sized furniture. We haven't had an official lalafell furniture since the step stool, so we were excited to finally have something that wasn't huge or way over our heads!

...Except this piece of furniture is not what we were hoping for. It's insulting and a lot of my friends think the same. It looks like a toddler's high chair. It doesn't even look like a proper chair with a proper backing and arms. It's forced to stay a pure white color and the dyable area is the part that makes it look like a furniture chair.

We've been hoping for lalafell beds, tables, anything... but this? The chair is great as a high chair in general. But not when most descriptions in a lot of languages note that it's specifically good for children and toddlers.

Please reconsider changing the design/default white wood to a more neutral look. Or rename it to anything else that doesn't allude to lalafell-specific item. I don't want to even imagine going to people's in game houses or RP venues just to be told to go sit in the child's corner

So this one had a write up already but I didn't realize it came from our sub

I thought that was the joke for revitalizing the sub. I had to check a few profiles to see that it is not a joke. I'm guessing zoomers are looking up "drama" and reddit and finding this sub somehow.

I read through both posts. I've never gotten hair extensions and really don't know anything about them - but holy heck, even I can tell it shouldn't look like that!

Hi guys, don't know where to talk about this. But I work with my family members at this third party trading company. I've been working here for 2 years , and since day 1 I've been very suspicious about my uncle. He's always going to this particular secretary in my office. She's like 34 and he's already 50. Worst part is that he's the boss of my building where I work at. If I'm not mistaken, it is against company policy to most companies for management to have something with a regular employee especially if you work under them. Everyday he visits her desk about 7-8 times during the entire 10 hour shift. He brings her food, always gives her snacks. For some reason they always tend to bump into each other at the break room or the hallways. It would be very coincidental. There would be times that I would be in the break room when she's there. He would randomly come in and always chit chats with her. When my other manager is absent and not in her office room , they tend to hide there but obviously leave the door open. My uncle has 3 kids, owns his home and has a great wife. This woman has been divorced and is known in my job for pretty much screwing everyone. Everytime I pass by them, she's always caressing his chest , back or arm. I had reported all this to my boss but she keeps saying that she knows my uncle , that she knows my uncle loves his wife deeply. I said yeah sure deep enough that he's constantly wanting to touch another woman's hand right in front of a person who has close ties with the family. The girl basically does nothing at the office, it's mostly me and 3 other girls doing her Job. The secretary ends up getting a promotion as supervisor. My uncle and my boss are basically the decision makers . So I had told my boss if this continues I will report this to HR and directly to his wife. I also said I am also convinced that her promotion was rigged because of a certain influence. I need advice on what to do. Though I had this talk with my boss, they continue doing the same thing.

my boyfriend of 6 months (25m) and i (19f) caught him cheating if thats what you would call it im not sure but he was streaming on twitch a couple of nights ago with one of his girl friends playing league of legends and he got a message from our dealer and called me to see if i would be interested etc etc when we ended the phone call i said i love you and he said yeah love ya and the call ended i went and joined his stream and heard the girl say “aw thats cute” he said its not like that and hes just a people pleaser and she agreed that she was the same she liled to help each other out ive got video proof of it because i had a friend screen record it and send it to me that was in the chat aswell i messaged him asking what he meant by that and he said “ugh nothing goodnight” today i went to go see him and confront him about it and told him i have the proof and he said no i thought she said druggie when she actually laughed about him saying its not like that thats why he apparently said im just a people pleaser… i dont know if you would classify this as cheating but all my friends agreed with me and said he was 100% flirting any advice on what i should do to not feel sad about this or what this is?

Be patient with me here, I sure lack a talent in storytelling. This happened about 4 years ago and now that my mom is no longer at her current job I feel I can post about this incident. To give you some of a background, I live in a somewhat small town. My family has lived here for years. It is one of those towns where growing up I had to be on my best behavior because everyone knows everyone. One time I was picked up by some friends who were egging before picking me up and by the time I got home my mom had already had 3 phone calls from people telling on me that I was in the car that was egging. Everyone knows everyone and everyone is related to everyone. My grandma was very involved in the community and everyone calls her grandma. My mom is also very involved in the community and I swear she knows everyone. She also was on the school board and President at the time of the event that I am about to share…

… Talk about small town drama. This mayor is still the current mayor. Constantly, we see her breaking rules and she continues to create conflicts of interest for herself. Were we the buttholes in this situation? Should we just forget it and move on? Do we have the right to be mad still?

So there's a dude at work who I would run into every now and then and we'd always say “what's up” and give a fist bump. We also go to the same gym and we'd happen to see each other there as well. As of several months ago he started dating a girl who works with us and ever since he started dating her, he seems to have gotten colder and saltier towards me.
